Visit :: Lifetime Learning Program at Duke University visited IITS

On February 17th, 2013, IITS women volunteers hosted eight women students from the Osher Lifetime Learning Program at Duke University. The students visited IITS as a part of their class, Introduction to Islam. The visit started with a tour of the IITS facilities followed by the observation of the evening prayer. Brief information was given about the structure and function of mosques in Islam.

Next, the visitors enjoyed the samples from the Turkish cuisine. The visitors were also given a presentation on role of Women in Islam and in Turkish culture. The event was concluded with cultural artistic activities where each guest was presented a ceramic tile plate with their name inscribed with calligraphy. The guests also had a chance to observe the paper marbling art presentation and to get hands on the bench to produce beautiful samples of this art.
